Recreation in the Pittsburgh area should stay on land this weekend after a power outage Friday evening at the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority wastewater treatment facility.

In an advisory late Friday, the authority advised the public to stay out of area waterways for 48 hours.

The power outage meant wastewater could not be processed for about two hours, resulting in an overflow that discharged into the river. The treatment facility is along the Ohio River near the McKees Rocks Bridge.

Power has been restored and notifications have been made to partnering water agencies and the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to Alcosan.

Those using the area’s waterways for recreation should limit contact with water, the authority said.
