Following a somewhat contentious recount process and a close statewide election that was eventually conceded, Allegheny County officials certified most of its election results on Monday for the 2022 primary.

The Allegheny County Board of Elections met at 10 a.m. and unanimously certified the results of all county elections, with the exception of the Republican primary for U.S. Senate and the Republican and Democratic county committee write-in results.

An automatic recount was triggered last month for the Republican U.S. Senate race because the vote margin between celebrity surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz and former hedge fund CEO David McCormick was only 0.1 percentage points after votes were initially tallied. Last Friday, McCormick conceded to Oz, who leads by a little over 900 votes.

Allegheny County’s recount netted McCormick less than a dozen additional votes over Oz.

The county’s certification also included the results for six write-in candidates for the state House who were successful in their efforts to get on the ballot for the General Election. Four Democrats and two Republicans successfully completed write-in campaigns.

They include:

  • Republican Matthew J. Kruth in in Pennsylvania’s 20th state House District
  • Democrat Alison Shepard Duncan in Pennsylvania’s 28th state House District
  • Democrat Richard Self in Pennsylvania’s 39th state House District
  • Democrat Sharon Guidi-Kretschmar in Pennsylvania’s 40th state House District
  • Republican Patricia A. Tylka in Pennsylvania’s 42nd state House District
  • Democrat Sharon Guidi-Kretschmar in Pennsylvania’s 40th state House District
  • Democrat Debra L. Turici in Pennsylvania’s 44th state House District
