Allegheny County reported its second-highest daily total of new coronavirus cases in nearly three months Wednesday.
The Allegheny County Health Department added 199 new cases (137 confirmed and 62 probable) out of 1,577 PCR tests. Of the probables, 42 are from positive antigen tests.
Since August, the county has had only one day with a higher number of new cases, with 204 on Oct. 4.
With those 199 cases, the county’s total rose to 15,300. The new tests added Wednesday created a daily positivity rate of 12.62% for Allegheny County. Its overall positivity rate since March sits at 6.85%, according to state data.
The new cases stem from tests administered Sept. 17-Oct. 27, with only two of those positive tests more than a week old. The ages range from 3 months to 91 years old with a median of 34.
Here’s how the new cases (108 female and 91 male) break down:

• 5-12: 9
• 13-18: 15
• 19-24: 31
• 25-49: 66
• 50-64: 39
• 65+: 27
According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 162 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county, an increase of eight from Tuesday’s 154. The county has 810 ventilators, with 207 in use, but only 25 by covid-19 patients.
Since March, the county reports that 1,405 people have been hospitalized, with 367 admitted to the intensive care unit and 138 requiring mechanical ventilation.
Allegheny County coronavirus by dayInfogramThe county also added four new deaths, from Oct. 15-Oct. 17, with one in their 30s, one in their 80s and two in their 90s. Two of the deaths are associated with long-term care facilities. The county reports a total of 426 deaths in the county because of the coronavirus, while the state’s total rose one to 411. The discrepancy has been attributed to different reporting methods between the county and state health departments.
