Allegheny County reports record 366 new coronavirus cases

Allegheny County reported a record 366 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

The new additions tallied by the Allegheny County Health Department bring the total to 18,339 cases since the pandemic began in March.

It’s the third time the county has reported more than 300 cases, with 317 on Tuesday and the prior high of 331 on July 14. It’s also creates a record seven-day average of 276 and a record seven-day total of 1,929 cases.

The county also reported five new deaths, bringing that total to 453. The dates of death range from Oct. 20 to Nov. 5, with one in their 20s, two in their 70s and two in their 90s.

More than 84% of the deaths have occurred in people 70 or older. Here’s a breakdown of deaths per age group:

    • 0-19: 0
    • 20-29: 2
    • 30-39: 1
    • 40-49: 3
    • 50-59: 17
    • 60-69: 49
    • 70+: 381

Wednesday’s PCR test positivity rate — the percentage of PCR tests that come back positive — in Allegheny County was 15.72%.

Of the new cases — 198 female and 168 male — 269 are confirmed from 1,711 PCR tests, while 97 are probable. The new cases, from tests dating Oct. 30 to Nov. 10, range from 3 months to 96 years old with a median age of 35. Here’s how they broke down by age:

  • 0-4: 2
  • 5-12: 7
  • 13-18: 31
  • 19-24: 62
  • 25-49: 142
  • 50-64: 49
  • 65+: 73

According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 249 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county, growing 35 from Tuesday’s 214. The county has 812 ventilators, with 233 in use, but only 36 by covid-19 patients.
