Allegheny County sees 2nd highest jump in coronavirus cases
Allegheny County on Friday reported 378 new cases of coronavirus, the second highest increase since the pandemic began. The record was set yesterday with 412 cases.
Of the new cases, 296 are confirmed from 1,673 new PCR tests, according to the Allegheny County Health Department. Two of the new positive cases date back to July 8 and are related to cases transferred from Florida.
The county has had a total of 19,129 cases, with 16,917 of those confirmed and 2,212 recorded as probable.
The record setting continued Friday as Allegheny’s seven-day case average reached 327 and the seven-day total of new cases advanced to 2,291.
There were two new covid-related deaths reported in the county, one on Nov. 6 and one on Nov. 9. The county’s death total is now at 458.
The county has recorded 229,377 residents with negative PCR tests. The overall PCR test positive rate has been steadily climbing and has reached 6.87%.
Allegheny County has 274 patients hospitalized for covid-19 and 90 of those are in intensive care units. Thirty-eight covid patients are using ventilators. Of the 814 ventilators available in the county, 227 are in use for all illnesses.
