Allegheny County on Friday reported 420 additional cases of covid-19, dropping its seven-day average to 574 cases. That is the lowest since the county averaged 558 cases in late November.
Of the new cases, 321 were confirmed via 1,714 new PCR tests while 99 were listed as probable, the county Health Department reported. Only Philadelphia reported more new cases with 605, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Allegheny’s case total is now 63,358 since March, with 50,696 of those confirmed.
Health officials define a probable case as one in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or covid symptoms with a “high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
The county is reporting 447 patients hospitalized for covid-19, with 149 in intensive care units and 60 on ventilators. The county has had a total of 3,777 covid-19 hospitalizations.
There were two new covid-related deaths reported in the county, advancing the total to 1,183. Both people died on Jan. 13.
The new cases range in age from 8 months to 101 years, with a median age of 41 years, according to the Health Department. The dates of the additional positive tests were Aug. 17 to Jan. 14. Thirty-three of the positive tests are more than a week old.
The county is reporting 21,231 people have recovered from covid-19.
