A 20-year-old man was shot in the hip in Munhall Monday night during a domestic incident between his mother and her boyfriend, according to Allegheny County police.

The wounded victim showed up at Homestead Police Chief Jeff DeSimone’s door just before 9:30 p.m.

“We tended to him as best we could,” DeSimone said. “He was bleeding pretty good. He was scared. We put pressure and cloth on the wound, elevated his feet, put pillows under his head. He never lost consciousness. He was alive and alert. We did what we could until the medics got here and took him away. It’s a first for me in my career.”

County police obtained an arrest warrant early Tuesday for Santanyo Lewis, 44, of the North Side. He is charged with aggravated assault, weapons violations and related offenses.

County detectives said the shooting happened along East 19th Avenue in front of the victim’s home just after 9 p.m. Monday. The victim is expected to survive and was listed in stable condition at a local hospital, police said.

Anyone with information on Lewis’ whereabouts is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS or contact them through social media. Callers can remain anonymous.

He is described as a black man standing 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 225 pounds. Police said he has black hair and brown eyes.
