3 injured in crash involving Port Authority bus, car in Pittsburgh's Strip District

A crash involving a Port Authority of Allegheny County bus and a car in Pittsburgh’s Strip District sent three people to the hospital Monday afternoon with minor injuries, officials said.

“None of the injuries are considered to be serious,” Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said.

A Route 88/Penn Avenue bus was traveling inbound along Penn Avenue at 31st Street when the crash happened at just before 4 p.m., Brandolph said. Two minutes later, Allegheny County 911 dispatchers received a request for fire, emergency medical services and police to respond to a “bus vs. auto” incident with possible injuries, a shift commander said.

Two people riding on the bus were injured and taken by ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian hospital, Brandolph said.

One of at least two people traveling in the private car involved in the crash was injured and taken to UPMC Mercy hospital, Brandolph said.

All three were expected to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Their specific injuries and conditions were not disclosed.

No further details were immediately available.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
