Amy Weise Clements on Monday stepped into the role of acting Allegheny County controller, replacing Corey O’Connor, who left the post to become Pittsburgh’s mayor.
Weise Clements has served as deputy controller since O’Connor’s predecessor, Chelsa Wagner, appointed her in 2012. Previously, she was Allegheny County’s budget director for eight years.
Weise Clements, 61, of Bethel Park, also has headed the controller’s office’s auditing division and served as an auditor at an independent firm, Grant Thornton.
“It’s a great honor and responsibility to assume the office of county controller at a time when a challenging financial situation requires robust independent analysis and oversight of government spending and functions,” she said in a prepared statement.
She will serve as controller until a successor is appointed by Gov. Josh Shapiro and approved by the state Senate, or until a new controller is elected at the end of the term in two years.
The controller serves as a fiscal watchdog for the county, conducting audits and recording revenues and expenditures.
As acting controller, Weise Clements will sit on the Allegheny County Retirement Board, Investment Board, Jail Oversight Board and Juvenile Detention Board of Advisors.
