Fights and disorderly conduct have prompted Etna officials to close the borough’s playground early, the borough announced March 31.

The playground, located behind the borough building on Pine Street, will be temporarily closed daily after 5 p.m. because of recent incidents at or near the facility, the borough announced.

It normally closes before 10 p.m.

Police are investigating the incidents and individuals involved. Police Chief Tim Rodman could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Borough Manager Mary Ellen Ramage said there has been generally “bad behavior” involving older teens in and around the playground area. No one has been hurt.

“We decided to just shut it down in the evening hours to try and settle this down,” she said, adding that police are monitoring the playground.

The playground will open at 8 a.m. daily.
