Bethel Park senior citizens have an opportunity to obtain a pass good for free admission to most school district events.
The pass is available for residents ages 62 and older.
Those interested can get one by stopping by the administration building at 301 Church St. during normal business hours and showing identification.
Superintendent James Walsh said he expects a lot of people to take advantage of the opportunity to attend events this coming school year, especially with all the cancellations last year due to covid-19.
“The pandemic shut down so many events over the past year and a half, and the Senior Citizen Pass allows our seniors the opportunity to enjoy a night out without having to spend much money,” he said. “Bethel Park is a proud community with deep roots. The people who live here tend to stay, and they still care deeply about the success of our schools long after their children have grown. This pass gives them an opportunity to show their support.”
The pass is good for just about all extracurricular activities.
“There is a misconception that this is strictly for sports, but it’s really for most Bethel Park events,” said Walsh. “We want to see our seniors at our football and soccer games, but we also want to see them at our chorus and band concerts. The (pass) is just our way of saying thank you to our area seniors for their continued support of Bethel Park School District and its students.”
However, not all events are free with the pass. There are discounted rates for school musicals.
Profits from those shows are used to fund future performances.
WPIAL and PIAA playoff games are not free. The pass also does not work for games outside of the district.
