Robert Scherrer, AIU executive director, presented Bethel Park School District’s Jaclyn Barton World of Gratitude Award.

Bethel Park School District’s English as a Second Language teacher Jaclyn Barton received this year’s World of Gratitude Award from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

Robert Scherrer, the AIU’s executive director, presented her the award at a special recognition ceremony on May 25.

The award is designed to honor those who demonstrate a most exemplary level of professionalism and dedication to students and staff, and for service with distinction and displaying leadership, expertise and compassion.

Dana Dervin, the K-12 English as a Second Language supervisor at the AIU, said Barton more than fits that description.

“She goes above and beyond every single year to meet the needs of her students, to reach out to the parents, to make those connections with families,” Dervin said.

Barton has helped students seek jobs and acquire driver’s licenses, among other accomplishments.

“I love what I do,” Barton said. “I love my students. Everyone I work with is amazing, so I couldn’t do it without everyone’s support. I really have tremendous students and I love my job.”
