The campaign trail is bringing President Joe Biden to Pittsburgh on Thursday, part of his efforts to sway voters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania ahead of the November midterm elections.
The president plans to visit the Fern Hollow Bridge and discuss the importance of infrastructure funding, according to the White House. This marks Biden’s fourth visit to Pittsburgh since becoming president.
Biden is scheduled to arrive in Pittsburgh around noon and speak shortly after 2 p.m. Gov. Tom Wolf will also be there.
The president signed a law last year enabling PennDOT to use federal funds to reconstruct the bridge that collapsed Jan. 28. Biden was in Pittsburgh the day the bridge collapsed and adjusted his schedule to survey the scene. He promised to help rebuild it.
PennDOT’s top official in the Pittsburgh region has said she hopes the reconstructed bridge will be completed by the end of the year.
Biden also is expected to appear at a fundraising event in Philadelphia on Thursday night for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman.
