Man found dead in Monongahela River in Pittsburgh identified

Officials have ruled that a body found in the Monongahela River on Wednesday afternoon was the result of a suicide.

Philip Joseph Scholl, 45 of Pittsburgh’s South Side was found dead shortly before 4 p.m., according to an Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office report.

Pittsburgh police, river rescue and emergency medical services were dispatched at 3:30 p.m. to the area surrounding the 10th Street Bridge in response to reports of a body in the water.

Upon arrival, first responders found a deceased individual, later identified as Scholl, who had drowned in the Monongahela River, a Pittsburgh police spokeswomen said.

A Pittsburgh police spokeswomen said they did not have any additional information regarding Scholl’s death Friday morning.
