Public Safety officials in Pittsburgh introduced a new vessel that will be part of the city’s River Rescue unit on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

A body was discovered late Saturday afternoon near the Ohio River in Pittsburgh, police said.

River Rescue, Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services and police responded to Doerr Street in the city’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood around 5:30 p.m. and were directed by a kayaker to an area near the river where the body was found.

River Rescue transported the deceased person to the North Shore boathouse. The body was later taken to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner, where the person’s identity and cause of death will be determined, police said.
