The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a body found Sunday in the Monongahela River as a 56-year-old man who lived outside of the area.
Elizabeth Borough’s water rescue team pulled Donald L. Wilson from the river, near the 700 block of West Elizabeth’s 1st Street, on Sunday afternoon, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene around 3:20 p.m.
Allegheny County Police said Monday that officers believe Wilson was working on a commercial boat in or near the river.
About 20 volunteer firefighters from Elizabeth’s fire department helped recover Wilson’s body, fire Chief Chad Rager told TribLive Monday. A swift boat team from Jefferson Hills assisted, authorities said.
“It’s just what we do every day,” Rager said. “But it’s definitely sad, when you see someone lose their life like that.”
The medical examiner listed Wilson’s home address as “out of county.”
The cause or manner of Wilson’s death has not yet been released.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
