Police are investigating a bomb threat that prompted the evacuation of a Giant Eagle supermarket Monday evening in Pittsburgh’s South Side.
An anonymous caller told a 911 dispatcher at about 8:15 p.m. that there was a bomb at the store in the 2000 block of Wharton Street.
A bomb squad deployed K-9 police dogs trained in explosives detection to sweep inside and outside the store and deemed the building all clear shortly before 10 p.m., according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson.
The store manager opted to evacuate between 40 and 50 patrons from the store as a precaution, the public safety spokesperson said.
