Five years after launching flights between Pittsburgh International Airport and London’s Heathrow Airport, British Airways is filling out its weekly schedule of flights between the Steel City and London.
The airline recently announced it will be flying between Pittsburgh and London Heathrow seven days a week starting March 31 .
This will be the first time the route provides daily service since it was introduced in 2019.
Seven-days-a-week service in the summer is up from the six days a week that British Airways has been flying this and last year, and increased from four days a week the airline was providing between 2019 and 2022.
British Airways operates year-round out of Pittsburgh but has cut down on frequency in the slower winter season.
Daily flights starting in 2025 will depart London Healthrow at 5:05 p.m. local time and arrive in Pittsburgh at 8:10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, the flight departs from London at 4:40 p.m. and arrives in Pittsburgh at 7:45 p.m.
Outbound daily flights will operate on a red-eye schedule and depart Pittsburgh at 9:55 p.m. and arrive at London Heathrow at 10:20 a.m. the next morning, Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, the flight departs Pittsburgh at 9:40 p.m. and arrives at London Heathrow at 10:05 a.m. the next day.
Pittsburgh International Airport CEO Christina Cassotis said British Airways’ local growth has been crucial in connecting Pittsburghers with international destinations. London Heathrow serves more than 65 countries across a network of over 190 destinations, including Barcelona, Mumbai, New Delhi, Paris and Rome.
“This investment to increase service demonstrates the continued popularity international travel has from our market,” Cassotis said. “We expect daily service next summer will further grow demand and the economic impact this route has in our region.”
Airport officials have also targeted sometime in 2025 as the opening date for Pittsburgh International Airport’s new $1.57 billion terminal project. The project is meant to modernize and streamline the airport and help it transition from its old hub days to its current origin-and-destination model.
This summer, Pittsburgh International Aiport had its busiest month in nearly 20 years.
