A home in Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood was destroyed by a fire that was fueled by lighter fluid, police said Saturday.
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, police and firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 1500 block of Ballinger Street around 11:45 a.m.
A relative called 911 and reported that a man at the residence was threatening to set the house on fire, and had poured lighter fluid throughout the home.
Officers found the man barricaded inside. A police negotiator made contact, and the man eventually surrendered.
During the surrender, officers found two guns on the man, and saw smoke and flames coming from a doorway.
Firefighters entered the home and put out the fire.
Police did not release the name of the man, who was taken in for questioning and is expected to be charged.
While the fire damage was described as moderate, the home is considered a loss, according to public safety.
No persons were hurt, but a cat died. A dog was rescued from the backyard.
The American Red Cross was helping residents, who police said are staying with relatives.
