At least seven passengers were hospitalized after a Tuesday afternoon crash involving a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus on East Eighth Avenue in Homestead, near The Waterfront development and the foot of the Homestead Grays Bridge.

The crash happened on the Homestead side of the Monongahela River span, which connects Pittsburgh to Homestead, at about 3:30 p.m., PRT spokesman Adam Brandolph said.

An Allegheny County dispatcher confirmed that police units were no longer on the scene at 5 p.m.

A 61C-McKeesport-Homestead bus was sitting at a red light at the intersection of East Eighth Avenue and the bridge when the rear tires of a tractor-trailer struck the front of the bus, Brandolph said.

A total of 30 passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash, Brandolph said. Two people were taken to UPMC Mercy, four people were taken to UPMC McKeesport and one person was taken to Jefferson Hospital.

None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, Brandolph said.
