A nearby Good Samaritan held onto a man who had fallen into the Allegheny River early Wednesday morning until first responders arrived, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

The man was “hypothermic” and screaming for help around 2:45 a.m. near the Pittsburgh Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the North Shore, officials said.

Medics and a river rescue crew arrived soon after and were able to drag the man onto the river walk.

He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and treated for hypothermia.
