Canadian wildfires again bringing smoke, haze to Western Pa.
Smoke and haze from wildfires in Canada are again hovering over Western Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection says it is monitoring smoking from large wildfires burning out of control in and around Manitoba.
“While an air quality action day is not expected, some hazy skies and reduced visibility could be noticeable, especially in the southwestern part of the Commonwealth,” DEP said in a post on X. “These wildfires are part of a growing emergency across Canada, and the smoke is expected to drift into parts of the U.S., including Pennsylvania. Stay aware, especially if you have respiratory concerns.
“We’ll continue to monitor conditions.”

Hazy skies will be more noticeable this week, said Bill Modzelewski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon.
“Almost like a haze in the air,” he said. “The winds out of Canada are bringing it down here.”
Wildfire season in Canada starts in early spring and continues through the beginning of November. Canadian wildfires have caused smoke to drift over the region during the past two summers.
