A Monday morning carjacking in Pittsburgh’s Friendship neighborhood ended with a suspect apprehended in Pitcairn, about 12 miles away, authorities said.
Pittsburgh police responded just after 11 a.m. to the 5100 block of Friendship Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. A man at the scene told officers he was carjacked and that he fired two shots at the man who stole his vehicle and fled the area.
Pitcairn police a short time later noticed a man who they said was driving erratically in a vehicle that matched the description of the earlier incident. They conducted a traffic stop in the 4400 block of Broadway Boulevard.
The driver had sustained two gunshot wounds — one to the arm and one to the shoulder, according to police. He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Pittsburgh police confirmed the driver’s identity as the suspect in the carjacking.
An investigation continues.
