Troy Riddle and his daughter, Everly, 5, had the same answer when asked their favorite part of attending the daddy-daughter event on Valentine’s Day at the Collier Community Center: spending time with each other.

“It’s a good time,” said Troy, who is also Collier’s EMS Chief.

The Riddles were one of 35 father-daughter pairs who attended the first Dad and Daughter Sweetheart Social, hosted by the Collier Parks and Recreation Department.

Activities included crafts, a catered lunch, treats and photos.

“We want to get the community involved more,” said Nichole Giroski, program and events coordinator. “Giving back to the community is the most rewarding thing, and getting people out and about — it’s the cherry on top for us.”

Joel West said he enjoyed getting to spend time with his daughter, Annabelle, 5.

“I think it’s cool having daddy and daughter time,” he said, “and it gives mommy a break.”

Mary Ann Cupples-Wisniowski, Collier’s commissioners president, said she hoped people enjoyed the Valentine’s Day event and complemented parks and recreation staff.

“Sometimes when people walk in, it’s their first time. They’re amazed at the beauty of the building. Most municipalities don’t have the facilities to have events like this. We’re very lucky,” Cupples-Wisniowski said. “We’re trying to showcase what we can do here in Collier.”

Ryan Stemple and his daughter, Julia, 6, had a fun time at the event.

“I’m really glad we have a space like this to have a good time and see friends,” Ryan said. “I’m very thankful to be a part of (Julia’s) life, and be the best dad I can be.”
