Voters in the Carlynton School District elected two newcomers and two incumbents to the school board.

Brittany Bova was the leading vote-getter with 2,653 votes , according to unofficial results from the Allegheny County Elections Division. She ran solely as a Democrat.

She was followed by Reece Smith with 2,088 votes; Susie Puskar with 1,976 votes and LeeAnne Mitchell-O’Brien with 1,832 votes.

Incumbent Christine Simcic missed winning another term on the boar with 1,248 votes.

Bova and Smith will be newcomers to the board.

Smith said he was honored and humbled to be elected, and that he appreciated the help and support received during the campaign.

“I enjoyed talking with so many about what they liked about Carlynton, what problems they have and what solutions they’ve thought of,” Smith said. “I have an open door for anyone to discuss any issues, problems or ideas. A major point of my campaign was that the school board needs to better engage with the community, so I’m always interested in hearing from anyone.

“I hope in the next four years the school will do a better job soliciting feedback and ideas from the community, and that that will lead to us solving more problems and boosting morale in the district,” he said.

Puskar and Mitchell-O’Brien are incumbents.

“I’m grateful for the support and trust of Carlynton voters and look forward to working with newly elected board members to continue building on the success in Carlynton,” Puskar said. “The next four years hold substantial opportunity for Carlynton as we focus on improving our facilities, strengthening student outcomes, and supporting staff in building community, excellence and character.”
