After the success of recent tree plantings in Bridgeville, borough officials are considering an idea to establish a shade tree commission in the borough.
“After two successful community tree plantings in the past year at both Cook School Park and a lot on Baldwin Street, the planning commission have been discussing an effort to continue such tree plantings throughout the entire borough at other municipal properties and right of ways,” said Manager Joe Kauer. “The commission would be charged with the management of the borough’s newly planted shade and public trees.”
Kauer said a vote to establish the shade tree commission won’t take place until later this year. Details are yet to be finalized by the planning commission and borough council.
Other business
Residents on McLaughlin Run Road might get some relief from “jake brakes” in the near future.
Kauer said neighbors earlier this year had requested the borough prohibit the use of “jake brakes” on McLaughlin Run Road, “which does have heavy truck traffic at times with homes closely set back from the street.”
A PennDOT study found that McLaughlin Run Road meets criteria for an engine brake retarder restriction, Kauer said.
“This ordinance, once adopted, will create the jake brake prohibition,” he said.
A vote is anticipated at either the August or September council meeting.
Council also accepted a $167,800 bid from Jet Jack, Inc. for a sanitary sewer improvement project on Center Street. The project replaces the sanitary sewer from 320 to 327 Center St.
Kauer anticipates work to start in the late summer or early fall. He didn’t have a timeline for completion.
