Bridgeville Mayor Betty Copeland cuts the ribbon on the McLaughlin Run Park Meadow during a ceremony Sept. 18.

It’s official: the McLaughlin Run Park Meadow is open to the public.

A dedication ceremony was held Sept. 18 at the park, 1250 McLaughlin Run Road.

The area, which was the park’s former ballfield, serves a dual purpose as a passive wildflower meadow and flood control project, according to the borough.

The park includes educational signage about watersheds, riparian buffers, meadows and new benches.

Bridgeville Manager Joe Kauer said the borough thanks the various organizations that assisted in putting the meadow together, including:

• Bridgeville Rotary Club, which funded the interpretative signs and concrete;

• The borough’s public works department for their work completing the concrete work, and installing amenities;

• The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, for the lawn-to-meadow conversion;

• The Bridgeville Planning Commission, for including the project in its plans based on feedback from community surveys.

“We encourage you to stroll the path, take in the scenery and enjoy this new peaceful space that also provides an important benefit in local flood mitigation,” Kauer said.
