Gary James was sworn-in as Bridgeville’s chief of police by Mayor Betty Copeland during a meeting on Aug. 11.

Gary James was officially sworn-in as Bridgeville’s police chief at a recent council meeting.

James has worked in the Bridgeville Police Department for more than 35 years, first as a patrolman, then as a sergeant and now as chief.

“His dedication, leadership and deep roots in Bridgeville make him the ideal choice to lead our police department,” the borough said in a statement.

Mayor Betty Copeland administered the oath of office to James during the Aug. 11 meeting. A representative of state Sen. Devlin Robinson, R-Bridgeville, presented James with a citation on behalf of the senator.

James was appointed to the position in May. He succeeds Chad King, who retired in January after 26 years with Bridgeville.
