Carlynton School District food distribution

The Carlynton breakfast and lunch distribution program began Aug. 24. Meals will be distributed at both Carnegie Elementary and Crafton Elementary Schools 10 a.m.-noon. Students enrolled in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program will be provided with both a breakfast and a lunch. (Carnegie Elementary is a CEP school. So, all Carnegie Elementary Students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. For all other students, a free lunch/breakfast is based on whether or not the student qualifies under the Federal Free Lunch Program guidelines. Check with the school for more details.)

Other students may purchase a meal using their MySchoolBucks account or cash to purchase their meal, however, the MySchoolBucks account is preferred for safety purposes. The cost of breakfast is $1.90 and lunch is $2.05.

The free lunch program for students during the summer for both Carnegie and Crafton has come to an end. The St. John’s distribution site will remain open for one more week to ensure a smooth transition.

Backpack Blessings collection

Collier Township Police Department will be collecting single-serving sized food for Chartiers Valley School District students to take home after school. Collection sites are in the lobbies of the Collier Township Police Department and Collier Township Administration Department (both located at 2418 Hilltop Road in Presto) and the Collier Community Center, 5 Lobaugh St. in Oakdale. The project is sponsored by Helping Hands of St. Barbara Church in Bridgeville. For more information, call Pam Fatoni at 412-638-2306.

Litter Cleanup Day

Families, neighbors and friends are invited to help clean up the community. Register online to receive free supplies while they last. Supply pickup will be available 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 14-18 at the South Fayette Township Building, 515 Millers Run Road. Knock on the front door for assistance. Cleanup Day kits include bags, gloves, vests and South Fayette swag. Please tie bags and leave them along the road for removal. Email Paula Willis at pwillis@sftwp.com to let the township know on which roads to pick up bags. Parental supervision is required.

Fairview Fall Virtual 5K registration open

In lieu of South Fayette Community Day and other large in-person events this year, South Fayette Township and Dollar Bank are partnering to present a new community event — the Fairview Fall Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run. Adults and children are invited to run or walk during event week, Sept. 26-Oct. 2, to raise money toward building an ADA-accessible playground in Fairview Park in South Fayette Township.

Registration is $25 per person or $60 per family. The fee includes free T-shirts and swag, raffles and race prizes. Everyone is welcome to participate as individuals, households or larger fundraising groups. Participants can run anywhere, anytime during race week, and tune into Facebook (@SouthFayetteTownship) during event week for live videos and drawings.
