Chartiers Valley School District has implemented new safety and security initiatives across all of its buildings for the new school year.

Marc Hubert, the district’s safety and security coordinator, provided an update on the plans during the school board’s Aug. 12 meeting.

“Every initiative we proposed was done through a comprehensive analysis in the district,” Hubert said. “That comprehensive analysis involved the (school resource officers,) district administration, teacher feedback, stakeholder feedback.”

New security cameras and door monitoring systems have been installed. Hubert said that was needed because most of the cameras and door access readers were at, or past, their end-of-life timelines.

The technology allows for easy monitoring of chosen areas in the building, Hubert said. It also allows for searching based upon things like someone’s clothing or vehicle color; the ability to be notified when doors are left ajar; automated, emailed video clips when specific events are triggered; the ability to set schedules for access to buildings; door buzzer systems that allow for remote unlocking if necessary; and lockdown buttons in each building.

Administration and security personnel have been trained on how to use the technology, Hubert said.

Another addition includes the installation of Raptor Technologies emergency management and visitor management software, Hubert said. There will be a kiosk in each building for parent and guardian sign-in, and badge sensors, he said.

There will also be a new mapping system connected directly to 911 dispatch. The Critical Response Group “CRG” mapping gives first responders access to building layouts and recommended points of entry.

Security measures also include school resource officers and Kellington security guards at each building.

The first day of classes at Chartiers Valley is Monday, Aug. 25.
