Chartiers Valley Middle School has a new assistant principal.
Regina Kim, 38, of Bethel Park, was hired by the school board Oct. 8.
Kim has worked in Pittsburgh Public Schools for 16 years, where she taught English Language Arts, middle school mathematics and social studies at Pittsburgh Sunnyside. She also served as a middle school instructional team leader and served as principal for a semester.
“I’ve been involved in various leadership capacities, including as part of the instructional cabinet and the discipline committee,” she said. “These experiences have shaped my approach to fostering equitable, engaging and student-centered learning environments.”
Kim was born and raised in the South Hills. In 2023, she earned her doctorate from Duquesne University in educational leadership with a focus on social justice.
“I am deeply passionate about creating equitable learning environments where all students feel supported and valued,” Kim said. “I also understand the importance of social-emotional learning, as I apply this philosophy not only as an educator but also as a mother of four.
“My personal experiences, including advocating for my son, who has ADHD and anxiety, have further strengthened my commitment to meeting the individual needs of all students. I believe that with the right support, every student can succeed.”
Kim said she was drawn to the position at Chartiers Valley because of the district’s commitment to academics, its focus on creating a positive and inclusive school culture, and the opportunity to collaborate with professionals.
“My passion for supporting middle school students’ academic and social-emotional development aligns with the values of CV,” she said. “I’m excited to contribute my expertise in curriculum, behavior management and leadership to support the school community and help students thrive.”
Kim will be working with Jim Pegher, who was hired as middle school head principal earlier this year.
“My goals are to foster a collaborative learning environment, promote student success, and support staff through professional development,” Kim said. “I want to contribute to a school culture where both academics and social-emotional learning are prioritized.”
