Two Chartiers Valley Seniors are being recognized as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

Congratulations to Sean Maddix and Liam Pedersen, who earned high scores on the PSAT exam during their junior year.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Sean is a concertmaster of the CV Orchestra, plays the violin, and participates in the fall plays and spring musicals. He hopes to attend college after graduation and major in actuarial science.

Liam is the president of the band, playing the saxophone and tuba. He also is vice president of DECA, which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs, and plays varsity tennis. After graduation, he hopes to attend college but is not yet decided on where.

The National Merit Scholarship semifinalists will have the chance to apply to attain finalist standing and go on to earn the title of Merit Scholar and scholarship money.
