A Chartiers Valley High School senior has been recognized for her outstanding academic efforts.

Charlotte Kinslow, 17, of Collier, is a national merit scholarship semifinalist, placing her among the top 1% of students nationwide. She was selected based on her performance on the PSAT.

Kinslow now has the opportunity to potentially earn the title of National Merit Scholar, along with a scholarship.

In addition to her academic achievements, Kinslow is the vice president of the thespian troupe and currently is directing a murder mystery play called “Murder’s in the Heir,” she said.

She is also a member of the school’s National Honor Society and an officer for the Class of 2025.

“I have really enjoyed my time at CV and am grateful for all the knowledge I have gained since freshman year, especially in my math and science classes,” she said.

Kinslow said her teachers — especially her math teachers and science teacher Amy Tremel —are the reason she is motivated to learn. Tremel fostered her interest in biomedical science, leading her to possibly pursue a major in neuroscience, Kinslow said.

“We are incredibly proud of Charlotte’s achievement and wish her the best of luck as she continues the selection process,” said Angela Conigliaro, district spokeswoman.
