Details emerge on suspected Taco Bell bandit charged in Southwestern Pa. burglaries
An Ohio man accused of burglarizing more than 30 Taco Bells across four states now faces charges for similar crimes in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Joshua John Logue, of Columbus, Ohio, is accused of hitting Taco Bell restaurants in the Waterworks Mall complex, Scott and South Strabane in Washington County. All of the suspected burglaries happened Sept. 20-21.
South Strabane police initially responded to the Taco Bell near Northgate Plaza on Washington Road the morning of Sept. 21 for a report of a robbery, according to the criminal complaint filed against 30-year-old Logue.
Security footage showed a man – later identified as Logue – arrive at the restaurant just before 3 a.m. in an extended cab pickup truck, according to a criminal complaint. The video shows a man using what police said appears to be an air rifle to shatter the glass door.
Logue is accused of using a hammer to smash his way into three cash registers. Cameras caught the license plate of Logue’s Ford F-150.
Police said a check of Logue’s criminal history showed he had convictions and pending charges in Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia and Ohio – all for similar Taco Bell burglaries, according to the complaint.
Investigators, using Logue’s physical description and the security footage, linked Logue to two similar burglaries in Allegheny County the same night as the South Strabane burglary, according to the complaint.
Logue is charged in connection with break-ins at the Waterworks Taco Bell about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 20 and then at a Taco Bell on Cochran Road less than three hours later, just before 2 a.m..
All told, investigators said, Logue is accused of stealing $900 from the three restaurants. He did nearly $7,700 in damage, according to the complaint. He’s charged with three counts each of burglary, criminal mischief and theft.
Police said Logue was arrested in Decatur, Ind., three days later when he was caught breaking into a Taco Bell there. According to the complaint, Logue was wearing the same clothing he was seen in during the Pennsylvania robberies. He’s currently being held in the Adams County Jail in Indiana.
Logue last year was charged with burglarizing five Taco Bells in Lexington, Ken., last year, according to the Courier-Journal.
In Ohio, ABC6 reported that Logue is a former Taco Bell employee, and he was charged with breaking into numerous locations in the Columbus area and beyond – often gaining entry by crawling through the drive-up window.
