Erin Rodgers is the newest member of the Chartiers Valley School Board.
School directors appointed Rodgers, of Scott Township, to fill a board seat vacated by Herb Ohliger.
Rodgers received the majority of votes from the school board on June 24 after she and four other applicants — Mariann Fox, Nancy Herzing, Lonnie Lamb and Thomas Rubritz — interviewed publicly before the board for five minutes each.
“My priorities and goals during my time on the board are the safety and the academic success of our students; responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources; supporting the administration in its endeavor to reverse the CV school ranking decrease to 52nd among Western Pa. schools; and, in short, doing my part to restore Chartiers Valley to its former glory,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers’ term runs through December. She ran for one of four school director seats in the May primary. In a field of nine candidates, she placed sixth on the Democratic ticket and seventh on the Republican ticket. She will not appear on the general election ballot in November.
“I am a proud graduate of Chartiers Valley’s outstanding schools, and I credit much of my success to the strong foundation I received here,” Rodgers said. “Having experienced firsthand the benefits of a CV education, I am committed to ensuring every student has the same opportunities to succeed.”
Rodgers believes her skills and work experience are translatable to being on the school board, and she said she will serve with honor, integrity and dedication.
“My goal is to support our administration, teachers and families in fostering an environment where all students are equipped for success, both in and outside the classroom,” Rodgers said. “I’m eager to give back to the community that shaped me and to work together toward a bright future for Chartiers Valley.”
Rodgers is the mother of a Chartiers Valley high school student. Rodgers’ grandfather was a principal at CV, and her grandmother was a middle school English teacher.
“Erin’s passion for Chartiers Valley, combined with her professional expertise and dedication to student success, made her an exceptional choice,” said Board President Darren Mariano. “Her unique perspective as both an alumna and a parent will help guide our continued efforts to support students, staff and the district’s financial health.”
In the statement, Mariano said the selection process was “thoughtful and thorough” and that Rodgers’ selection “reflects the Board’s deep commitment to ensuring that every student in our district benefits from strong, compassionate leadership dedicated to educational excellence.”
Rodgers was appointed in a 5-2-1 vote. Mariano, Louise Huehn, Ed Brosky, Jeff Choura and Kate Drury voted for Rodgers.
Mitch Montani and Lisa Trainor voted for Lamb. Megan Sexton voted for Fox.
“I voted for Lonnie Lamb primarily due to his experience as a school resource officer and with Emergency Operations. This type of experience is rare to find in a candidate, and I thought it could be especially valuable given the recent safety/security discussions at CV,” Montani said.
He added: “I wish Erin Rodgers the best. I look forward to working with her over the coming months on behalf of our great community.”
