Trinity Irwin, a Chartiers Valley High School junior remembered as an exceptional student and deeply involved in the community, has died, the school district has announced.
Members of the Chartiers Valley community have established a GoFundMe online fundraiser to support Irwin medical and funeral expenses.
A viewing will be held on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Henney Funeral Home, 323 2nd Avenue, Carnegie. The funeral service will take place Tuesday at Henney Funeral Home, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
The GoFundMe, coordinated by Mackensie Cross, said Irwin faced an “unexpected medical emergency.” About $5,600 was donated as of 4 p.m. Wednesday. No cause of death was given.
Irwin died Saturday, March 28, the GoFundMe said. She was 17.
Cross wrote that Irwin was looking forward to taking credits to work toward her goal of becoming a nurse.
“Trinity was a great student, a wonderful daughter, and a loved sister,” Cross wrote.
A statement released by Chartiers Valley Superintendent Daniel Castagna offered its condolences to Irwin’s family, friends and those who knew her.
The school remembered Irwin as an exceptional student who challenged herself through honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Irwin participated in Best Buddies, a club that promotes interaction and friendship between regular and special education students. There, Irwin “exemplified compassion and leadership by supporting peers in need,” the school district’s statement said.
“Irwin was well respected and admired by her teachers and classmates alike, and her kindness, warmth and positive spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her,” the statement said.
The district encouraged parents to speak with their children and to reach out to district officials if additional support is needed.
