Businesses open

Bridgeville welcomed new businesses in June.

My Life Counseling and Pittsburgh Insurance Advisors opened at 449 Shady Ave., and Coldwell Banker Realty at 521 Washington Ave.

My Life had a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 24. Attendees there included representatives from Sen. Devlin Robinson’s office; Bridgeville Mayor Betty Copeland; and David C. Ely, vice president of the South West Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“We are so grateful to have another supportive community business as part of the South West Regional Chamber Of Commerce Group,” said Mandi Pryor, executive director of the chamber of commerce.

Chartiers Valley comings and goings

Numerous appointments, resignations and transfers were approved by the Chartiers Valley School Board during its meeting June 24.

Appointments include Timothy McWilliams, acting director of facilities; Emily Weismantle, head middle school girls soccer coach; Dave Mackenzie, volunteer boys soccer coach; and Matthew Rouse, head middle school football coach.

The board accepted resignations/retirements from Fred Ayres III, skilled maintenance; Sally Metrovich, secretary; Wilson Fike, mechanic; William King, teacher; Anthony Bomar, junior high basketball coach; Melissa Moran, head girls varsity lacrosse coach; Mackenzie Greene, girls high school volleyball coach; Dave Sinclair, boys middle school soccer assistant coach; Sarah Koons, yearbook club sponsor; Aaron Fitzpatrick, Black Student Union sponsor; Carol Pilato, bus garage employee; and the district’s construction manager and facilities director, CHC Construction.

Transfers included William Minney, bus driver to custodian; Austin Wischmann, substitute custodian to primary school custodian; and Lydia Glick-Klimek, playground aide to five-hour nutrition secretary.

Supplemental appointments include Alicia Guarnaccio, class of 2026 sponsor; Jessica Zoldos, class of 2029 sponsor; Symphony Vaughn, Black Student Union sponsor; and Melissa Moreschi, Gina Switala, Liz Speicher, Jennifer Hertzog, Cindy Holleran and Amy Bouch as curriculum writers.

Summer workers include: transportation drivers Carol Pilato, Lloyd Page, Mike Harris, Jamie Morgan, Dom Mussomeli, Maryann Ziegler, Stacy Poploski, Dina Zimage, Christine Mangold, Harry Paul, Ken Sacks, Phil Pucci, Greg Hall, Mike Betrose, Janice Maruski, Pam Ludwig and Tony Palombi; bus aides Herman Clellen, Donna Miller, Rena Mussomeli, Mike Harris and Gloria Beatty; bus washers Sheena Golden, Rich Habovick, Amanda Barus and Chelsea Hester; body technician and seat repairman Tom Matuszewski; mechanic helper Robert Downey; painters Rita Manski and Diana Efthimiades; and grass cutter Mark Montgomery.

Summer secretarial employee appointments approved by the board were Francine Steiner, primary school support secretary; Victoria Henefeld and Laura Cozza, support secretary assistants; and Karen McLaughlin, secretary assistant.

School trips approved

Chartiers Valley’s varsity cheerleading team will attend the Slippery Rock Cheer Camp from July 24 to 28.

The only cost to the district is transportation to Slippery Rock.

In addition, Frank Zissis will attend the Computer Science Teachers Association’s 2025 Annual Conference in Cleveland, from July 8 to 11.

The school board approved the trips during a meeting June 24.

Bridgeville’s downtown

Bridgeville’s planning commission has proposed a new “Downtown” zoning district which encompasses all of Washington Avenue.

According to the borough, the district is designed to support a vibrant business environment and encourage redevelopment.

A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for early fall.

CV meal prices

Chartiers Valley School Board set next year’s food service meal prices.

Prices for students are: $1.65 for a la carte or second breakfast at all district buildings; $2.85 for lunch at the primary and intermediate schools; and $3.10 for lunch at the middle and high schools.

Adult and teacher prices are $3 for breakfast and $4.35 for lunch.

Scott zoning personnel

Scott commissioners promoted Stephanie Wilshire as assistant zoning officer at $30.58 an hour. They also approved an adjusted work schedule for Planning, Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer Mark Mox to a three-day, 32-hour work week at a reduced salary of $92,726 per year.

Commissioners President Stacey Altman said the changes were previously discussed in budget meetings for this year. Mox’s change is a savings of $16,500, Altman said. The changes are effective for the pay period beginning June 8.

Project updates

Reconstruction of Bridgeville’s Gregg Avenue stairs is expected to be finished by late summer, according to the borough.

The project is funded in part by a state grant covering 70% of the project.

Also, plans have been finalized to replace the main picnic shelter at Chartiers Park. The project will include a new 30-by-52-foot structure with a concrete floor, utility connections, new picnic tables, buffet tables and trash cans. Construction is scheduled for this fall.

Scott summer help

Scott commissioners on June 24 hired five people for summer help.

Andrew Hudock was hired for the public works summer help program; Riley McAllister and Julie Nangle were hired as pool cashiers; and Kenneth McFerron and Teagan Bruce were hired as lifeguards.

Farmers market vendors wanted

Scott officials are seeking interested vendors to participate in the township’s outdoor farmers market at Scott Township Park, 2 Park Drive.

The market runs every Wednesday until Oct. 15. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m.

Electronic recycling, paper shredding days on tap

A free electronic recycling collection event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 9, at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial St.

Materials collected include televisions, computers, laptops, computer monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, computer equipment, radios, telephones, gaming consoles and systems. Not accepted are loose batteries, smoke detectors, medical equipment, chemicals or household hazardous waste.

On Sept. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m., State Rep. Anita Kulik will host a free paper shredding event, also at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department.

Papers must be loose, and can not have binder or paper clips. Documents will be shredded on-site by a reputable and bonded company.

Country line dancing

Save the date for a country line dance from 6 to 11 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department, 456 First St.

Doors open at 6 p.m., lessons are from 7 to 8 p.m. and dancing is from 8 to 11 p.m.

Tickets will go on sale soon. All proceeds benefit the fire department.

Summer movies

Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club’s free summer outdoor movie series returns this year at the Bridgeville Public Library, 505 McMillan St.

Films will be shown outdoors on the library’s patio, weather permitting. People should bring a lawn chair. Movies start at dusk.

Upcoming movies are “The Seven Year Itch” on Aug. 15; and “The Thomas Crown Affair” on Sept. 12.

Bridgeville road paving

Road paving in Bridgeville is scheduled this summer on Mill Street, Cook School Road, Oelschlager Way, and certain portions of Liberty Street and Bower Hill Road.
