Bridgeville leaf collection
Bridgeville’s public works department has begun leaf collection. It will continue through Dec. 5, following the regular street sweeping routes.
Leaves should be swept into piles at the curb. Do not place sticks, branches or other yard waste in the leaf piles. Avoid having idling vehicles near leaf piles.
Brush collection will take place during November.

Veterans brunch
Collier will host a “Salute to Veterans Brunch” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 10 at its community center, 5 Lobaugh St.

Old St. Luke’s concert series
The concert series is back at Old St. Luke’s Church in Scott.
Remaining concerts include: Nov. 9, Daphne Alderson, chanteuse; March 22, Academy String Quartet “Domestic and Imported Lyricism”; April 26, Trio Sine Nomine; May 3, Taburaški Sastav Ponoć America’s Premier Tambura Band.
Concerts begin at 2 p.m. and are held at the church, 330 Old Washington Pike, Scott.
The suggested donation is $20.

Fall craft show
Save the date for the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fall craft show.
The show is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the fire department’s Chartiers Room, 370 Commercial St., Bridgeville.
Admission is free.
Country line dancing
Save the date for a country line dance from 6 to 11 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department, 456 First St.
Doors open at 6 p.m., lessons are from 7 to 8 p.m. and dancing is from 8 to 11 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale soon. All proceeds benefit the fire department.

‘The Play That Goes Wrong’
Chartiers Valley High School’s fall play will be “The Play That Goes Wrong.”
Dates for the show are scheduled for Nov. 12 to 15. All shows will begin at 7 p.m.
Superintendent forums
Carlynton Superintendent John Kreider is hosting parent and community forums this school year.
Remaining forums are scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at Carnegie Elementary; 9 a.m. Jan. 7 at the Jr.-Sr. High School Cougar Collaboration Center; 6 p.m. Feb. 4 at Crafton Elementary; and 6 p.m. March 3 at the Carnegie Elementary Library.

Rotary scholarships available
The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program has scholarships available for the 2025-26 academic year.
In recent years, the program has awarded at least eight need-based scholarships of $5,000 each.
High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply.
Those attending New Kensington-Arnold, Kiski Area and Burrell Area high schools and The Kiski School in Westmoreland County also are eligible. Vocational students, GED students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools also are eligible.
Students must have a 2.5 or higher grade-point average and must complete an essay highlighting their community/school service.

Tree planting
Bridgeville is partnering with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s TreeVitalize Program for a community tree planting.
Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. on Nov. 1 at the borough building, 425 Bower Hill Road. Volunteers will plant trees along Baldwin Street and at McLaughlin Run Park.
Tools and supplies will be provided.

History presentations
The Bridgeville Area Historical Society’s upcoming speaker program is “Ancestry” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.
The program will be held at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department’s Chartiers Room, 370 Commercial St., Bridgeville.
Chartiers Valley comings and goings
Numerous appointments, resignations and transfers were approved by the Chartiers Valley School Board during its meetings Sept. 23 and Oct. 14.
Appointments include Allison Swauger, transportation director; Carmella Cole, primary school general worker; Bonnie Katruska, middle school temporary custodian; Austin Wischmann, intermediate school custodian; Leslie Glikis, driver; Jessica Lange, intermediate school paraprofessional, Dexter Lopez, skilled trade employee; and Stacie Kaminski, playground aide at the Intermediate School.
The board accepted a resignation from Shelly Ferguson, Joan Kundra and Kelly Koslow, nurse.
Supplemental appointments include Elizabeth Musial, middle school student council advisor; Jaimie Grimes, homebound instruction; and Frank Brown, chess club sponsor.
Athletic hirings include Austin Berger, assistant baseball coach; Jordan and Zack Oddi and Trevor Jaworski, volunteer baseball coaches; Eugene Bragano, JV baseball coach; Orlando Bellasario, assistant JV baseball coach; Shane Waldern, junior high baseball coach; Steve Waldern, assistant junior high baseball coach; and Nate Wood, volunteer soccer coach.
The board accepted resignations from Morgan Soulia, head swim and dive coach; and assistant varsity softball coaches David Giehl and Ashley Horew.
Carlynton donations, grants approved
Carlynton School Board approved donations and grants during its Sept. 16 meeting.
The district accepted back-to-school supplies donated from Bridge City Barber Shop in Crafton; $7,500 from Subaru of South Hills to be divided among 15 Carnegie Elementary teachers for classroom materials; and $1,500 from the Masonic Lodge to Carnegie for indoor recess and positive behavior initiatives.
The board accepted a staff enrichment grant issued by the Carlynton Education Foundation for $500 to purchase recess materials at Carnegie. The grant was submitted by teacher Jaylynn Leslie.
Bridgeville budget meeting
Bridgeville Council will hold its annual budget meeting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the borough office, 425 Bower Hill Road.
The purpose of the meeting is to review and discuss the proposed budget for next year. The meeting is open to the public.
Board member resigns
Carlynton School Board accepted the resignation of Derek Luke during its Sept. 16 meeting.
Collier leaf collection
Leaf collection in Collier ends Dec. 8.
Leaves must be raked curbside or to the edge of the residency. Pickup will be via the township’s “Leaf-Vac” along residential streets only. Do not have rocks or sticks in the leaf pile.
Leaves may be bagged in brown leaf or garden bags only — no plastic bags. After Dec. 8, all leaves must be bagged with brown leaf bags.
Dates are approximate and subject to change dependent on weather.
Heidelberg budget meetings
Heidelberg will hold its budget meetings at 6:30 p.m. every Monday through Nov. 17 at the Community Center, 1639 E. Railroad St.
Winter Blast
Bridgeville’s Winter Blast will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at Triangle Park, 431 Station St.
At the event, Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the Christmas Tree to kick off the holiday season.
The fire department will tour Santa around Bridgeville mid-morning on Dec. 21.
Carlynton personnel moves
A number of personnel moves were approved by the Carlynton School Board during its Sept. 16 meeting.
Appointments include Jessica Martin, special education teacher at the high school; Alyssa Conley as a long-term substitute science teacher at the high school; Brenda Tatano as a long-term substitute special education teacher at the high school; Lynsie Merglowski as the Direct Instruction in the Home tutor; Haely Mollica as compensatory education tutor; Mark May, custodian at Carnegie; and Jackie Gamble, morning custodian at the high school.
The board accepted the resignation of Edward Cousins, custodian.
Supplemental appointments include Brandi Cramer, Cougarette Honor Guard coach; Johnna Lefebvre, fall play director; Anna Hall, assistant band director; Stanley Lacek, middle school boys soccer coach; Amy Jenkins, junior class sponsor; Melanie Lewis, sophomore class sponsor; Daniel Nee, seventh grade boys basketball coach; and Christopher Gargis, eighth grade boys basketball coach.
Scott library bake sale
The Friends of Scott Township Public Library will hold a bake/candy sale on election day, Nov. 4, in the library’s lobby, 301 Lindsay Road.
Baked goods and Sarris candy will be available starting at 10 a.m.
The sale is cash-only.
Junior board representative
Carlynton student Jackson Kenney is the newest member of the school board.
Jackson will serve a two-year term as the board’s student representative.
Robinson selected for board
State Sen. Devlin Robinson, R-Bridgeville, was selected to serve on U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick’s U.S. Service Academy Nominations Advisory Board.
The board helps identify and recommend young Pennsylvanians seeking appointments to the nation’s military academies. Members will review applications, conduct interviews and make recommendations for the U.S Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Robinson is a Marine Corps combat veteran who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Senior Fair
State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Carnegie, will hold a free Senior Fair from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 23 at the Kennedy Township Fire Hall, 1796 Pine Hollow Road.
Local and state agencies will be available to offer help with tax or rent rebates, prescription and energy assistance, transportation services and more.
Refreshments will be provided.
Chill Mobile
Chartiers Valley school board approved the Allegheny Clinic “Chill Mobile” agreement for the 2025-26 school year.
The program teaches school-age children emotional and coping techniques.
Tenure
Chartiers Valley teacher Rachel Schwartzmiller has obtained tenure, according to the school board.
12 Days of Giveaways
Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department will hold a “12 Days of Giveaways” raffle fundraiser from Dec. 1 to 12.

Small Business Saturday
Bridgeville’s Parking Authority will offer free public parking Nov. 29 — Small Business Saturday — and from Dec. 17 to Jan. 1.

Winter league basketball
Collier parks and recreation has opened registration for winter basketball for children from kindergarten to eighth grade.
The season runs Jan. 10 to March 21. Practices are one hour weekly; games are played on Saturdays at the community center, 5 Lobaugh St.
The fee is $75 for members and $90 for non-members.
The school division is for teams registering with premade rosters. The recreational division is for players who are registering to be randomly drafted onto teams.

CV trips
Chartiers Valley School Board approved trips for its students and faculty.
High school orchestra members Kamilla Ruslankyzy, Damon Lee, Ethan Lilly and Hope Hertzler will travel to North Allegheny to participate in the PMEA Honors Orchestra festival on Nov. 15 and 16.
Primary School Principal Hannah Dziamniski and counselor Bethany Ward will attend a multi-tiered systems of support implementer’s forum at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit from Nov. 12 to 14.
Superintendent Daniel Castagna and Assistant Superintendent Michael Sable will attend The School Superintendents Association National Conference on Education in Nashville, Tenn., from Feb. 12 to 14.
Nicole Glowark, Josiah Burkett and Stacie O’Toole will attend the Robotics and AI Discovery Day Conference at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Nov. 5.
The high school’s Black Student Union attended the Leadership Summit at the Carnegie Natural History Museum on Oct. 24.
College Club of Carnegie
The College Club of Carnegie welcomes members and guests to enjoy a “Luncheon of Thanksgiving” meeting on Nov. 1 at Bella’s on Fort Couch Restaurant, 91 Fort Couch Road.
Doors open at noon with lunch to follow.
Entertainment will be provided by musician G.C. Gibson. A 50-50 raffle will be offered to benefit the club’s scholarship program.
