Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Festival
The Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble is back with its annual concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Andrew Carnegie Free Music Hall. The production is an anthology of five stories related to love and loss. Performers from the United States, Canada and Ukraine collaborated on the project.
The first dance film version of “5” will be held online at 7 p.m. Oct. 24.

Back to School BASH
Junior Achievement of Western PA is teaming up with local partners to host a Back-to-School BASH from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 2 at the JA BizTown facility, located in the Abele Business Park in South Fayette. The event aims to provide children with the necessary resources and supplies they need for a successful year.
The first 50 students at the event will receive free backpacks, and additional students will receive tote bags. Students and their families are encouraged to participate in a scavenger hunt through JA’s fully-interactive community, JA BizTown, where they will collect school supplies from more than two dozen regional businesses and discover the many career possibilities in our area.
In addition, guests will enjoy prizes, food and drink, and entertainment including, a live DJ from 100.7 Star, caricature and balloon artists, a magician, face painting, a selfie station and more.
Participants can also learn more about JA’s new educational experiences and initiatives that foster work readiness, entrepreneurship and money management skills.

Parks & rec fundraiser
Friends of Collier Parks & Recreation will hold a family-style dinner fundraiser at the Alpine Club in Bridgeville beginning at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person (reserved tables are available for parties of six or more). Menu consists of soup, salad, vegetable, pasta, chicken parmesan, dessert, tax and gratuity. Tickets can be purchased by calling Deb Zymroz at 412-303-1190. Deadline to purchase tickets is Oct. 17.
Chili cook-off
The 14th Annual Bridgeville-South Fayette Rotary Chili Cook-off will take place noon-4 p.m. Oct. 17 at Fairview Park in South Fayette. For more information, contact Natalie Jackson at 412-403-5666.
Road closure
A 200-foot section of the 5100 block of Thoms Run Road in Collier will be closed until November. The closure is required for construction of a support wall and repairs to an existing wall.
Traffic will be detoured using Thoms Run and Oakdale Road, Hilltop Road and Forsythe Road. All homes and businesses on Thoms Run Road will be accessible throughout the closure.
The $180,617 project is being done by Pugliano Construction Co., Inc., of Pittsburgh.
Ukrainian Food Festival
The Parish of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Carnegie will host the 10th Annual Ukrainian Food Festival 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 1-2.
The festival will feature delicious homemade Ukrainian foods and pastries, basket raffle, church talk and tours will take place at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. each day.

Flea market
The Church of the Atonement, 618 Washington Ave. in Carnegie will hold a flea market Oct. 15-16 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. On Saturday, the sale will close from noon-1 p.m., when it will reopen for the bag sale.
