When complete, the Mayview Road Trailhead will provide a seamless connection from 5 miles of trails in Fairview Park to 5 miles of pedestrian trails in the Hastings neighborhood of South Fayette, officials say.
South Fayette was awarded $320,000 from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for its Mayview Road Trailhead project.
Parks and Recreation Director Paula Willis said the project involves building a trailhead along Mayview Road, across from OTB Bicycle Cafe Hastings.
Amenities will include parking, a small shelter with restrooms, stormwater management, landscaping, a pedestrian connection to new Fairview Park nature trails and a crosswalk to OTB Cafe and the Hastings neighborhood, Willis said.
The township is working with PennDOT to determine details of pedestrian enhancements over a nearby Chartiers Creek bridge to make connections to neighboring Upper St. Clair trail systems, Willis said.
“The trail will serve as a hub for multimunicipal, multimodal transportation and active recreation for the community,” she said.
Willis anticipates trail design to take place this year and construction to likely begin in 2027.
She said the grant requires a 100% match, so South Fayette will be responsible for at least $320,000.
