New I-79 traffic patterns in South Fayette coming due to Southern Beltway construction

According to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, a traffic shift will occur on I-79 in South Fayette Township and Cecil Township beginning this evening.

Crews will begin the traffic shift starting at 8 p.m. Aug. 20 and will be finished setting the pattern by 6 a.m. Aug. 21.

Traffic traveling southbound will begin using the new pavement on the southbound side of I-79, according to a news release. Traffic heading northbound will remain in the current configuration.

Once this new traffic pattern is in place, the southbound rest area near mile marker 50 on I-79 in South Fayette Township will be reopened.

Drivers are asked to obey the posted speed limit which is 45 mph throughout the work zone and is strictly enforced.
