A mother of two children in the Carlynton School District is the newest member of the school board.
School directors Feb. 10 appointed Tina Geer, of Carnegie, to a vacant seat on the school board.
The term ends at the end of next year.
“I was motivated to serve because I believe in governance grounded in stewardship, clarity and thoughtful decision-making,” Geer said. “I am particularly interested in understanding how the district can continue strengthening educational equity and consistency, ensuring students are challenged appropriately, learning at a strong pace and graduating well-prepared relative to surrounding districts.
“Serving on the board is an opportunity to contribute constructively, listen carefully, review data thoughtfully and help support decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term sustainability.”
Geer said she regularly attends school board meetings and cares about the day-to-day experience students have and the long-term direction of the district.
She said her priorities include educational quality and equity, communication and transparency, and responsible stewardship of resources.
“I am a governance-minded leader with more than 20 years of experience providing oversight, strategic input, and process improvement within complex organizations,” Geer said. “My professional work requires balancing stakeholder needs, identifying gaps, asking thoughtful questions early, and ensuring decision-makers understand trade-offs and downstream impacts.
“I value collaboration and shared understanding. I believe good governance means listening to diverse perspectives, grounding discussions in data, and working toward solutions that are practical and sustainable. Most importantly, I am a parent who cares deeply about the educational experience of Carlynton students and about maintaining a district that families are proud to be part of.”
Geer unsuccessfully ran for school board last year.
Geer, Stephanie Mangan and Lauren Pelescak were the applicants for the board vacancy left by Kelly Zaletski.
The school board appointed Geer in a 6-2 vote. Joe Appel, Brittany Bova, Mary Eddins, LeeAnn O’Brien, Susan Puskar and Jim Schriver voted for Geer; George Honchar and Reece Smith voted for Mangan.
