November is a busy month at the Library & Music Hall
It’s not as though things will return to “normal” at the stroke of midnight on Dec. 31, but that doesn’t make me want to hurry through the rest of 2020 any less. It’s been quite a year, yet we’ve managed to keep things going here at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall. And there are still many great activities to enjoy while getting through the end of this year!
We reopened last summer for curbside and in-person service, and since then, we’ve gone online, outside and “Inside Out.” Our fabulous parking lot concerts have ended for the season, but the Library has many great offerings online and in-person.
Families with little ones might enjoy Miss JoLynne’s weekly, interactive, storytimes on Facebook – or take home a grab-and-go craft kit. Older kids can try out The Collective’s free High School Musical Audition workshop on Nov. 21. (Registration is required, see CarnegieCarnegie.org for details.)
PALS offers a more traditional monthly book club for seniors, while Drop-In Book Chat is open to all adult readers online. The casual format of the unique group encourages an open conversation about current reads or reviews on past books. It’s a great way to socialize safely and discover new books.
In addition to our collection of great reads and DVDs, your Library card can connect you with a host of free movies, music and books online.
You can even take the internet wherever you go with a hot spot now available to borrow.
Thanksgiving will likely be different for many of us this year, but even the least experienced baker in your pod can learn to Prepare the Perfect Pie Crust with our free virtual lesson on Nov. 15.
Experienced baker Kelly Hiser will share her tips and tricks for the perfect flaky crust on Zoom and Facebook. Please register on our website.
The November event I’ve most anticipated, though, is the final installment of our Woman’s Hour programming commemorating the Centennial of the passage of the 19th Amendment.
On Nov. 14, our very own Espy Post curator Diane Klinefelter will present a special 2nd Saturday Civil War Lecture on women’s roles in the Civil War. “Mother’s, Marms and Madams” will explore the various roles women played on the battlefield and the home front and take a look at where the seeds for suffrage were planted. A professional genealogist, author, lecturer and former library director, Klinefelter has transitioned the monthly lecture series (now in its seventh season) to an entirely online format that you can enjoy on Zoom or Facebook.
As always, the presentation is free and open to the public. Once again, please visit our website for event links and details.
