Road work begins Wednesday in Collier Township
Milling and paving work, as part of an ongoing project on Thoms Run Road between Forsythe Road and Washington Pike (Route 50) in Collier Township, will occur during night hours – 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays. Work will begin Wednesday, according to Allegheny County Department of Public Works.
The decision to perform the work at night was made to help mitigate potential traffic issues. Residents who might be affected by the work are being notified by Collier Township, and they will have access to their homes at all times.
The project also includes drainage repairs and roadway safety improvements, which will continue to take place during daylight hours – 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. That work has a minimal impact on traffic because it involves much smaller areas than milling and paving.
Throughout the project, drivers can expect to experience short stoppages in work zones. Flaggers will be used to control traffic, and drivers are urged to use caution in the area.
The project is being done by Northeast Paving, a division of Eurovia Atlantic Coast of Pittsburgh, as part of a $10.7 million 2019 Capital Roads Reconstruction contract.
