Kris Sabin is Collier’s new chief of police.
Sabin was sworn-in by District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet during a commissioners’ meeting Feb. 23.
“I am honored and humbled to have been sworn in as Chief of Police for Collier Township,” Sabin said. “It has been my privilege to serve this community for the past 27 years, and I now look forward to focusing on its future in this new role.”
Township Manager George Macino made the announcement Feb. 16.
“It’s a great move for Collier,” Macino said. “(Sabin’s) an outstanding individual.”
Sabin was raised in Ingram and graduated from Montour High School in 1991, according to the announcement. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Criminal Justice in 1996 and graduated from the Allegheny County Police Academy that same year.
He began his public safety career as a dispatcher with Robinson police before serving as a police officer in Oakdale’s police force.
In 1998, he was hired in Collier. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 and was named acting chief last year.
Sabin has served on the executive board of the Collier Township Police Association and, for the past 14 years, has been the co-chairman of the association’s community outreach fund, building relationships with local businesses and residents.
Sabin said being chief allows him the opportunity to not only lead and support Collier’s officers, but also to continue serving the community.
“I am committed to fostering an environment of trust between our officers and the residents we serve,” Sabin said. “By investing in our department and our personnel, we will empower our officers to grow and perform at their highest level while ensuring Collier Township remains a safe place to live, work and visit.”
Sabin said he will focus on transparency, trust, training, expanding personnel and embracing technological advancements within the department.
“Together, with the support of township leadership and our community, the Collier Township Police Department will strive to exceed the expectations of those we serve every day,” Sabin said.
