Scott, Carnegie Library offering plethora of February activities
Scott Township Public Library
• On Saturday, Feb. 1, from noon to 2 p.m., the library will host the film “Groundhog Day.” All are welcome to watch the film about Bill Murray living the same day over and over.
• Kids Club for grades K-2 will meet on Feb. 3 and 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. Gather to make friends, learn new things, and have fun. Earn badges, explore and master different topics, such as cooking, volunteering, crafting, gardening, survival skills, and nature walking, to name a few. All participants will receive a special Kids Club T-shirt. Registration is requested.
• Seasonal Arts and Crafts: Decorate a Valentine’s Day tote on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 3:30 to 5 p.m. This is for adults.
All skill levels welcome. Supplies provided. Registration is requested.
• Participate in Valentine Origami on Saturday, Feb. 8, 11 a.m. to noon; or Tuesday, Feb. 11, 4 to 5 p.m.
Learn the Japanese art of paper folding. Make origami hearts and Valentine’s Day cards. Use STEM concepts to make geometric shapes. Light snacks provided. For kids ages K-5.
• A Conversation Salon for adults will be held Monday, Feb. 10, 1 to 3 p.m.
Join us for an informal, civil discussion about current events. All viewpoints are welcome, and the discourse is courteous.
• On Tuesday, Feb. 11, 5:30 to 7 p.m., create custom beads or miniature figurines using polymer clay. Take it home to bake. Materials (and baking instructions) will be included. Space and materials limited. Registration is required. For adults and teens.
• Participate in Adult Color Time on Friday, Feb. 14 and 28, from 2 to 3 p.m. Come relieve some tension and express your inner artist. Supplies are provided.
• Cooking Club will meet on Monday, Feb. 17, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Learn to make a tasty recipe. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is required.
• This month, Lego Club meets on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Lego bricks and theme will be supplied. Lego fans are invited to join in for a night of building and fun.
• Jurassic Park Escape Room will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Grab your friends and family and try it out. You have 30 minutes to solve the puzzles, find the clues, and escape the room. Groups of up to eight people can reserve a time slot. Reservations are required.
• The Friends of Scott Township Public Library (FOSTPL) are currently seeking a new board member. The board is in particular need of an individual willing to serve as the secretary. If interested, send a letter of interest to Gina Leone, leoneg@einetwork.net. This is a volunteer position.

Andrew Carnegie Free Library, Music Hall
• Discover details about winter animals on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 11 a.m. to noon during a program taught by an Allegheny County Parks ranger. Learn about how animals survive and flourish during brutal winters. This is for ages 5 and up.
Registration is requested.
• On Feb. 3 and 17, from 11 a.m. to noon, learn how to borrow books to read by using your phone or tablet. The program is called “Intro to Libby” and offers tutelage on how to use this free reading app. Registration is required.
• Speaker John Heckman will present “2nd Saturday Civil War Series: Death and Historical Memory” on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 2:15 p.m.
Learn how Civil War veterans from the Pittsburgh area shape how we see the past. This is free to the public and registration is not required.
• On Saturday, Feb. 15, from 11 a.m. to noon, learn some great ways to use a pressure cooker. The program is called Instant Pot 101 and promises to help users learn to make creations that the whole family will love. The class is free but limited to the first 15 participants, so register now.
• Back by popular demand, Red Beans & Rice Combo will return on Saturday, Feb. 22, a 8 p.m. to provide New Orleans and Mardi Gras music to celebrate the last weekend of Carnival season in style. Contact the library for ticket information.
• Looking for new reads and lively discussion, then stop by the PALS Book Club on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. This group brings together senior adults interested in reading selected works and discussing them. The current book selection may be picked up at the library circulation desk.
