A mobile command center will help Scott Township police enhance the force’s ability to manage critical incidents and large-scale events.

Scott officials Aug. 29 hosted U.S. Congressman Chris Deluzio, D-Aspinwall, to announce $700,000 in federal funding for the township to purchase a mobile command center.

“Answering the call to protect our community is a tall order, and it requires specialized tools and equipment. … This mission-critical vehicle will equip the department to be ready to execute strong responses on the ground — whatever comes their way,” Deluzio said.

Chief Matthew Podsiadly said the funding will have “a lasting impact on the security and well-being of our Township and beyond.”

“Securing $700,000 in grant funding for a mobile command vehicle will greatly enhance our ability to manage critical incidents and large-scale events with the highest level of communication and control,” Podsiadly said. “Additionally, we will have the ability to support our law enforcement partners from around the region.”

The command center will provide a central hub for the department’s devices and equipment, and be a place for streamlined communication, officials said. It will feature a private meeting room, dry erase boards, a TV and four workstations.

The command center has the ability to serve not only Scott, but also the 22 communities in the South Hills Area Council of Governments.

“This grant will significantly enhance our ability to provide effective and efficient responses to emergencies and improve overall public safety. The new mobile command center will enable us to better coordinate our efforts, streamline communication, and ensure that our officers have the resources they need to protect and serve our community effectively,” township Manager Denise Fitzgerald said.
