Jane Sorcan was appointed as Ward 2 Commissioner in Scott.

A longtime volunteer in Scott Township has been chosen to fill an open seat on the board of commissioners.

Jane Sorcan was appointed in September to fill the Ward 2 commissioner seat vacated by Brandon Edwards.

“I have been active in Scott Township as a volunteer for a number of years working for the betterment of the community and have some understanding of township government,” Sorcan said. “Being retired, I felt I had the time to serve and fill the vacated term.

“My priority as a commissioner is to represent the residents of Ward 2 to the best of my ability.”

A retired teacher, Sorcan said she has been a Scott resident for more than 25 years.

“During those years, I served on the Scott Conservancy Board, helping to acquire and preserve green space and to develop the Kane Woods Nature Area with its trails, which can be enjoyed by the public,” she said. “I have also served on the Scott Township Planning Commission and served one term as the treasurer of the Friends of the Scott Township Library.”

Sorcan’s term filling the open board position lasts until January.

She is on the ballot for Ward 2 Commissioner in November and is unopposed. If elected, she will serve a four-year term that begins in January.
