South Fayette Elementary School moves temporarily to remote learning
South Fayette Elementary School is going remote today through Dec. 7 due to three new positive cases of covid-19, according to a letter from South Fayette School District Superintendent Dr. Ken Lockette.
In the letter posted to the district website Dec. 2, Lockette said that the three new cases bring the school’s total to five within a 14-day period and that the school is closing “in accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s guidance and the recommendation of the Allegheny County Health Department.”
Lockette said that the cases were not related and that there were no instances of people being in close contact with those who tested positive.
Students will learn asynchronously Thursday and log into Canvas for live teaching via Google Meet on Friday and Monday.
“The District takes the safety of our students and staff members seriously and is closely monitoring this situation,” Lockette said in the letter. “We will notify staff and families if any additional actions need to be taken.”
According to the district’s website, the intermediate, middle and high schools each have two active positive covid-19 cases.
