South Fayette Senior Center recently reopened its doors and resumed in-person activities.

Township communications director Andrea Iglar said the reopening process began in June and things have really picked up in the past few weeks.

The South Fayette Area Senior Citizens Association offers daily activities at the center, which is located in the rear of the municipal building at 515 Millers Run Road.

“They kind of eased into it, and now they’re in full swing,” Iglar said. “They’ve got their full schedule going.”

A notice about the center reopening and the return of its various activities was posted at SouthFayettePa.com/seniors.

The center closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Hundreds of people would attend the monthly luncheons pre-pandemic, and bingo was the second largest crowd at the center.

Iglar said they hope to get back to those attendance numbers once more people are comfortable going out.

“They tried to contact their members, but it seems like some of the people who previously attended the activities maybe don’t realize they resumed yet,” she said. “Some people still might not want to come out yet. Certainly the majority, if not every person, over there has been vaccinated.

“The group is happy to be able to socialize again. They haven’t seen their friends in a while and they’re glad to be able to play cards and have their luncheon. They’re trying to make their events exciting and draw people back to the center again.”

Programs on the schedule include: Euchre at 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 500 bid at noon Tuesdays and Thursdays except the third Thursday of the month, mahjong at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays and the third Thursday of the month, bingo at 12:30 p.m. Fridays. Luncheon is at 12:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month.

Regular hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m excluding holidays.
